Nechao II

| There are very few documents about the reign of this pharaoh, although Erodoto has left a lot of information on the activity of his government. In Megiddo, in an operation, which he led himself, he defeated Giosia of Giuda. Palestine, Phoenicia and Syria were ruled by Egypt for three years, until Nechao’s army was defeated by Nabucodonosor in Karkemish, who reached the Egyptian border. Always according to Erodoto, he began to build a canal which had to join the Nile to the Red Sea, a task which he didn’t complete. |
